Chieh Suai Tan

Dr Tan Chieh Suai is a senior consultant at the Department of Renal Medicine, Singapore General Hospital. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and an adjunct Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School.


His interest is focused on Interventional Nephrology. He was awarded the Singapore Health Services Human Manpower Development Program Scholarship for further sub-specialty training in Interventional Nephrology in 2011. He completed his interventional nephrology training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, United States of America in 2013. Upon his return, he set up the interventional nephrology suite as part of a multi-disciplinary service comprising of Interventional Nephrologists, Radiologists and Vascular Surgeons in Singapore General Hospital. On the average, the interventional suite performed approximately 900 dialysis access related procedure each year, including thrombolysis, angioplasty, stenting and tunneled hemodialysis catheter procedures. Dr Tan also started a training program for endovascular procedures for nephrologist in Singapore General Hospital.
Dr Tan has an interest in improving the outcomes of endovascular interventions and has published research papers and book chapters in this area. He has also received research grants from the Singapore National Kidney Foundation and Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology for development of devices for dialysis access interventions.
